  Australian Illicit Drug Budgets

eSYS have been engaged to update estimates of government spending on illicit drug policies (known as "drug control budgets" or "drug budgets"). Moore noted there is little understanding of the nature and magnitude of government spending in this area, which is unsurprising given the difficulties in developing a drug budget. Relevant spending occurs across all levels of government and across many government sectors, such as health, policing, customs and education. The study is being conducted at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) which was established at the University of New South Wales in May, 1986 and officially opened in November, 1987. It is funded by the Australian Government as part of the National Drug Strategy (formerly, the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse). http://ndarc.med.unsw.edu.au
